I Have always been interested in languages. Even in early school I was intrigued by other kids that spoke Spanish or whatever. In the early 2000s I did some things to learn German on the internet but I got to the point that I really had no one to practice it with. I did make some progress and can read and make sense of some stuff.
Listening to short wave radio in my teens opened up a whole new world to me. I wanted to understand what they were saying. There was a whole world out there that I wanted to learn about!
I just sort of hit a wall with it with what I could find online to learn it. I tried a few programs but they were just so visual and so much of the stuff was poor contrast turning it into more of an exercise in frustration over my over my poor vision rather than the task at hand. I guess for most people the visual aspect would help but not for me.
The other frustrating thing for me is memorization. It’s just not something I’ve ever been able to do well. I can remember anything with context but not lists of things.
