Thanks For Keeping Me Awake Amtrak Work Train
I got woken up once again by Amtrak’s work train. Them things are fucking loud. They are always here in the middle of the night.
They’re certainly annoying but a necessary evil. It definitely makes sense for them to do their work at night when there’s only an occasional freight train on the tracks or the Pittsburgh train. During the day their are many more passenger trains and some of them fly through here. It’s just a minor inconvenience for us for the better of many. Lots of people ride these trains. The few times we’ve taken it we were really surprised how many people where even at the Mount Joy Train Station, even at 5 in the morning.
As if the loud diesel engine isn’t enough they have to use an air horn to communicate then the train has to beep its horn when it moves.
I am not sure what they were doing last night as I didn’t feel like getting dressed to go look. Normally they do it when there aren’t leaves on the trees so you can see out the window. The one time I did look and could see it it was a long machine that appeared to be lifting up the tracks and reworking the stones and boards underneath then setting the tracks back down. It really was a cool looking machine. Who am I trying to bullshit, all big machines are cool. If I see one I always have to stop and watch if for a minute.
