No snow this time.

Monday, January 14th, 2008

Pretty much like I’ve been suspecting we didn’t get any snow here.  We got rain instead.  I just didn’t see the temperature dropping fast enough for us.  Besides that the storm was to form too far north and east to really give us anything.  Maybe we’ll ahve better luck next time.

There was a time when I would really get my hopes up for a storm like this to happen but I don’t do that to myself anymore.

Sunday – Monday storm

Friday, January 11th, 2008

There is at least a potential for snow in the Susquehanna valley Sunday into  Monday.  It probably won’t accumulate to much of anything but that’s the way it’s going this year.  At least there shouldn’t be a lot of ice.

Sierra Nevada Storm

Friday, January 4th, 2008

Wow.. I can not even comprehend this amount of snow but in the Sierra Nevada the NWS is forecasting the possibility of 7 to 10 feet of snow.  I would love to experience that some day.  They are also forcasting hurricane force winds.  They’re saying snow will fall at six inches an hour and maybe up to eight inches per hour.

April Snow

Friday, April 6th, 2007

It’s April 6th. Looking at the radar there are plenty of lake effect snow showers and squalls across the state. We’ve had snow showers off and on all morning. Nothing is sticking to the ground but the ground is pretty warm and it is April.

There will be a storm and south of here should actually get some snow. That’s not too common. Winter just doesn’t want to give up after it didn’t want to start.

Snow in March is Always good

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

This strange winter is continuing.  It started out as the winter that seemed like it would never get cold.  This continued until late January when we got our first Arctic blast.  We stayed well below normal for most of February then it warmed up for a few days.  Once more we are in the Arctic air.  It’s not to shabby for being march either.  It stayed in the 20s today after a low in the teens last night.

The NWS in state college is saying 2 to 4 inches of snow Wednesday with a high in the mid 20s.  Should  make for fun day to listen to the scanner. I have my doubts whether we’ll get that much snow from a clipper but I’m hoping for the best.

Making Snow on Mount Washington

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

I saw this posted on a board. I thought it was a neat experiment so I had to post about it here. On Mount Washington in New Hampshire they took boiling water and it immediately turned into snow. At the time they did this it was -34° Fahrenheit Their wind chills were between -80 and -100. Mount Washington is one of those places I really want to visit someday. I also enjoy checking out their extreme weather.

Maybe we’ll finally get some snow

Sunday, February 11th, 2007

Looks like there’s at least a potential for a snow storm Tuesday into Wednesday. We’ll see what heppens. The odd thing about it is that it seems like most of our snowstorms occur closer to the weekend not the middle of the week. At least that’s the way I remember it growing up near Philly, Are you ready for the tv hype to begin?
