Western Pa storms

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

It looks like there’s some nice thunderstorms out in western Pennsylvania. I’ve been watching them move south east today but the first batch missed me by a couple of counties. Maybe more can for or something before the cold front moves through.

I’ve been feeling the humidity creep up after a nice cool night last night and not much humidity this morning. I was hoping that would help cause some storms. Even though it’s a little more humid now it doesn’t compare to Tuesday. I’ll take a dewpoint in the 50s any day over one near 70.

I should’t be too greedy about storms. After all we did have three move through June 19th Thunderstorms.

June 19’s Thunderstorms

Wednesday, June 20th, 2007

Yesterday was one of the best storm days we’ve had in a while. It didn’t seem like things would work out for us to have good storms when the first line weakened as it approached. I was pretty disapointed because before I shut down the computer and went outside to watch they looked great. For a minute or two it even seemed like the sky wanted to turn green. They weakened when they hit the river.

About 9:00 pm I was on the computer and heard a bit of thunder in the distance. Looked at the radar and there was one red pixel near here. Turned out to be a developing storm. Went out side and watched until the lightning got too close for comfort. I’ve seen it closer but there was lots of intense cloud to ground lightning. That storm passed pretty quickly then it started getting foggy.

Started hearing thunder again around 10:30 pm. I noticed the power dimming a couple of times before the lightning was even close so I knew that would be a good storm. Again there was tons of frequent cloud to ground lightning After the storm passed there continued to be a lot of lightning in the clouds. It also featured some very loud thunder. I also noticed many of the lightning flashes had a green glow for a few seconds afterwards. I couldn’t believe we never lost power.

I’m ready for more storms.

Slight Risk of Severe Thunderstorms

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

Today could be a fun day. There’s a slight risk of severe thunderstorms in the area with the main threat being damaging hail and strong wind. It should be a fun afternoon. I am hoping for some good storms in my backyard. They’ve been missing us here this year.

Wondering About Local Tornadoes

Monday, June 18th, 2007

Last week there was a tornado warning in Lancaster county. It turned out that the NWS said it was straight line wind damage but it got me wondering how many tornadoes have been in this area. A few years ago there was the one in Campbelltown. That was an F-2 and destroyed some houses.

Molly told she remembered hearing about a small tornado in town.. I did find one on the NWS’s site that could have been the one she was talking about. It was an f-0 and only 75 yards whide. Molly had said she remembered hearing it went between houses and caused no damage. The NWS site seemed to say the same thing but it had very little details on the tornado it self. I just thought it was pretty interesting that one has occured so close to home.

Can You Do Anything About Smoking Neighbors?

Monday, June 18th, 2007

Just something that’s been bothering me a bit. We live in a row house. A cheap one but it’s what we chose. The neighbors on both sides smoke out on their porches. The smoke comes in our house. Sometimes to the point that my eyes burn. It’s a pain in the ass, especially considering no one in our house smokes.

Talking to either neighbor about it would do no good. The idiots who live on one side of our house have no clue what respect means. It’s two people, their adult son, a kid, their daughter and her husband and their two whiny little kids. They have to be the dumbest family I’ve ever seen. I can’t believe the even managed to create more kids.

The two youngest kids are maybe around 5 years old.. They’ve hit me, ran into me and almost ran into me on a bike while carrying groceries into the house. The whole time the mother never says anything or even notices. They hit our house. They’ve destroyed our flowers. They’re always out side screeching and screaming. My only hope for them is that Darwinism dos what it’s supposed to do.

When the neighbors are out side smoking the cigarette smoke usually comes in our windows. I know it’s not fair to for anyone to say they can’t smoke on they’re property but is it fair to us that we have to deal with the smoke on our property inside of our house? What about any effects it may have on our health in the long term?

The smoke smell hangs in our house some times. One night last week I kept waking up and smelling it and thinking their is a fire because of smelling smoke as soon as I woke up. For that amtter I am amazed there hasn’t been a fire. The retards on one side of us don’t watch their kids at all. The adult son that lives with them did burn their house playing with fire next to the house when he was a kid. The siding is off the wall their and their landlord never fixed it. There is practically a hole there now.

I hate cigarettes and cigarette smoke.

CAPTCHAs Again

Friday, June 15th, 2007

I came across a website this morning that I just could not sign up for thanks to CAPTCHAs. It was not a site I needed but just wanted to sign up to check it out so it’s not really important. I know I’ve written about this before but it can’t hurt to mention it again.

The text in the picture was so distorted it was hard to read it. To top things off the picture had very poor contrast so it was hard to tell where the text ended and the background color began. Enlarging the image didn’t help like it sometimes does. I don’t like spam but it’s slightly annoying when CAPTCHAs keep legitimate users from signing up.

Most of the time when they use the graphic CAPTCHAs I can get by but once in a while one comes up that just isn’t possible to work with. They seem to be getting more distorted. They work good in theory but they do have their limitations. I can understand why they’re used but they do have an impact on accessability.

Thunderstorms moved in from the northeast

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

This has been an interesting week in weather. Maybe even a bit unusual. Tuesday and Wednesday we had thunderstorms in the area. They were moving from northeast to southwest. Don’t really see that all that often.

Right out our house on Tuesday we had one with some pretty nasty lightning. I think we were on the edge of it though. We had heavy rain for a half an hour then the rain let up. That was when the lightning started. I was on the front porch watching the bolts come down to the north before the storm passed by us.

Yesterday the storms missed us but did prompt a tornado warning for southern Lancaster county. Don’t know if one touched down but I did read that someone reported seeing a funnel cloud and that there were some trees down and powerlines down.

This year hasn’t been as good as last year was for storms here but it hasn’t been bad either. Last year we just seemed to be in the right area for the worst of them often.

The storms did really cool it off nicely. After storms passed both days the temperature dropped into the 60’s That’s alot nicer that mid to upper 80’s. Channel 8 said the tops reached 40 thousand feet yesterday afternoon. That would help bring the cooler air down too.

Hazleton Geocaching and Senapes Pitza

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

We went to the Hazleton area caching and had a blast. I think we found 25 caches and had 3 DNFs. Blew off some the hiking ones to save for another day but I do want to do them. It was nice to go through some areas I’ve been to but not in about 10 years.

We got two boxes of the Senapes Pitza and ate one almost immiediatly. I finished the other one the next day. It was as good as I remembered it being. I can’t wait to go back and get more. It was also nice seeing an area where I used to spend so much time. I have a feeling we’d cache alone more in the mountains if Molly’s car didn’t dislike hills so much.

Remembering Hazleton

Thursday, June 7th, 2007

I used to get this pizza all the time when I went to the mountains with my grandfather. It was the Hazleton area. I’ve been wanting to find it again and knew it was only local to that area but couldn’t remember what it was called.

Last Saturday we were geocaching in the Reading area and stopped by Sonic to eat and started talking to someone from Allentown. I had to ask if they knew what it was called and they did. We’re going to go geocaching up there with a friend soon and I will get some of the pizza.. Hopefully it’s as good as I remember.-

Now if only we can get up to that area sometime again so I can have halupkies. I would also love to find some bleenies. Those are good fried potato pancake type of things. Molly would probably like them too.

Most of my friends were from that area but I never get up there to see them. Some have died. I drank lots of beer with them and played with lots of fire.

Gypsy Moths

Wednesday, June 6th, 2007

Last night on the news they were talking about Gyspy moths in York county.. I had forgotten all about them until I saw that. It reminded me of when I was a kid at the mountains near Hazleton when they were bad one year.

That was interesting that year. Even though it was summer everything looked like winter because there were no leaves left on anything. with in a week or so they had eaten everything green. I could be remembering wrong. I’ll have to look and see if I still have the pictures I took.
