I saw this posted on a board. I thought it was a neat experiment so I had to post about it here. On Mount Washington in New Hampshire they took boiling water and it immediately turned into snow. At the time they did this it was -34° Fahrenheit Their wind chills were between -80 and -100. Mount Washington is one of those places I really want to visit someday. I also enjoy checking out their extreme weather.

I’ve always wanted to switch to Linux but in the past it just hasn’t worked for me. I’d installed Linux twice before but it just didn’t stick for me. Last time I had installed it my hard drive started giving smart errors and then started loosing windows files randomly. We sent that drive back to get it replaced but in the mean time we bought a smaller cheaper drive to put in my computer until the 180 gig one came back. Something came up and we never put it in so the drive that was in there was almost full with our ripped cds.
I decided to give it a try again. I came across Kubuntu which looked like a good start. It used KDE which I always preferred anyways. One of the great things I’ve noticed with Linux is that there are plenty of options. The install went quicker and more painless than windows ever went for me. Everything just worked with out having to hunt down any drivers. I could change the colors of the install to higher contrast white text on black background to make it easier to see. Windows always has that hard to see text and also the hard to see key to enter. Kubuntu runs faster for me than windows xp ever did too.
I’ve been pleased with it and decided to only use windows if I have to. The only time I’ve needed to use it so far is to run gsak which unfortunately doesn’t seem to work under wine right now. I would imagine that at some point it will work Everything else I need to do seems to work better under Kubuntu. I’m sure I’ll find stuff I miss from windows but there will probably be other solutions to do what I need most of the time. It seems like Linux may finally stick with me. Even if it doesn’t it’s fun and interesting learning something different. We’ll see how it goes. As far as being user friendly Linux has come along way since the first time I tried it and even the second time. There’s so much more software available that it surprises me.

There will be a total lunar eclipse tomorrow I am hoping to get the chance to actually see it this time but it looks like it may be cloudy. That’s typical for me and this type of thing. Another example was the good chance to see the aurora borealis a month or two ago. For us it got cloudy but the clouds were only in the part of the sky where the northern lights were to be visible.. The eclipse would be interesting to see since I don’t remember the last time I saw one.

Person on their cell phone on top of their flooded car. They showed them on the noon news. Apparently both heavy rains and cell phones bring out the stupid in people. If they hadn’t gone around the barrier to drive into the water it wouldn’t have been a problem.

Meteorological winter is over now. As a snow lover the winter wasn’t really a great one. We really didn’t get all that much snow but we did have one interesting snow storm that turned to sleet and ice then the temperature dropped and froze everything as solid as a rock. That was a fun storm to watch develop.
December and January were both warm months. The ground never froze. I didn’t really think we’d get any snow the way the winter was going. It was 5.8 degrees above normal for January and 5.9 degrees above normal at Lancaster for December
February was the exact opposite of most of January. It got cold. In Lancaster the temperature averaged 6.5 degrees below normal. It just seems like February has been even colder than the numbers show. I don’t really remember it staying below normal for so long.
I’m looking forward to thunderstorms now.

I heard on the local news last night that an 18 year old got shot but his grandfather for breaking into his house. Pretty low to try to steal alcohol from grandpa.
